Theme Camps

Theme camps can be an important part of the burn. A theme camp is a group of people collaborating to camp together and create a common theme to present to the burn participants at large through services, activities, a great place to hang out, art, performances, etc. Just about anything goes and the themes and offerings span a wide range. A theme camp could center on a dance club, a bar, a classroom, a chill crash space, a stage for wild performances, an amazing art installation, etc. Creativity rules.

Theme camps are autonomous centers within the burn. The camp provides its own water, power, building equipment, labor, etc. And everything that comes in, goes out, leaving no trace. Theme camps will often also have their own schedule of events, classes, presentations, etc. A theme camp doesn't have to be big. It could be three friends camped around their art project or the base that launches a mobile theme camp or troops carrying services out into the city.

In order to bring a theme camp to Alchemy, you'll need your invitations and you'll want to have your camp planned out and give some thought to the needs of the camp. Will people be passing through 24 hours a day or just for limited events? Is the camp intended for daytime or nighttime activity? Are you planning to burn in your camp? Or burn your camp? Do you prefer or require peaceful surroundings? Is your camp loud?

This year we will be handling theme camp placement on site a little differently.  With the exception of a few areas, you will be able to place your theme camp anywhere you want on a first-come first-served basis.
